About
Arbuthnot Hall is an Arts & Crafts Village Hall, available for hire, situated in the heart of Shamley Green village, in the beautiful Surrey Hills. Built in 1904, it was commissioned and paid for by local resident, Ellinor Arbuthnot, in memory of her late husband. Elinor gave the land and building to a charitable trust to provide a "village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of Wonersh and the neighbourhood thereof without distinction of sex or political, religious or other opinions." The Village Hall, which opened in 1905, was designed to have many uses for the small community at the time, including as a library and reading-room, and to serve as a cricket pavilion during the summer months. It serves as a vibrant local hub for the community, providing a venue where local people can come together for a variety of activities including fitness classes, parties, music nights, club dinners, pantomimes, film nights, quiz nights and Christmas celebrations.
