About

Buxton Opera House is an exquisitely beautiful Edwardian theatre, built in 1903 and designed by Frank Matcham. It is one of the country's finest examples of Matcham theatre design, lovingly restored in 2001. It serves as a leading receiving theatre, hosting around 450 performances annually, including dance, comedy, children's shows, drama, musical concerts, pantomime, and opera. It is also home to the renowned Buxton International Festival. The Pavilion Arts Centre, located just behind the Opera House, offers a cosy and welcoming, flexible space ideal for smaller productions, fringe theatre, new writing, amateur dramatics, music, comedy, talks, and family shows. The Pavilion Gardens complex, adjacent to the Opera House, includes the Octagon Hall auditorium and a two-storey restaurant with a bar and gift shop.
