About
Situated in the heart of the village of Avebury, the Social Centre serves the villages of Avebury, Avebury Trusloe, Beckhampton and West Kennett as well as Winterbourne Monkton and Berwick Bassett. Formerly the school, it changed its role in 1973 when a new school building, to accommodate the growing class size, was built behind it. It now functions as the social heart of the area, hence the name. Managed by a committee of voluntary trustees the Social Centre hosts local events such as the annual pantomime and events from visiting groups as well as regular meetings of the Parish Council and Avebury & District WI. Being in the heart of the ancient Henge it often host events that tap into the spiritual and mystical energies of the area.
